Smartphone sales are recovering from the effects of the pandemic

It should be noted that even before the pandemic, smartphone sales have been declining.

Smartphone sales data for the third quarter of 2020 showed a 5.7% decline worldwide to 366 million units.

Although it is a decline, it represents a more significant increase compared to previous periods of 2020 as markets are recovering the effects of Covid-19.

Moreover IDC forecast last month an increase of 2.4% in the last quarter of 2020 compared to the same period a year ago.

5G smartphones are expected to push consumers to buy new models. The average cost of a 5G smartphone is currently $ 611 while in 2024 it will be reduced to $ 453.

In terms of market share, Samsung sold 80.8 million units, or 22% of the market. Along with Xiaomi were two of its own manufacturers that marked growth. Samsung grew by 2.2% while Xiaomi by 34.9%.

Huawei held second place but is expected to change in the fourth quarter as sales of the iPhone 12 have begun. It should be noted that even before the pandemic, smartphone sales have been declining.

Apple in the third quarter sold 40.4 million smartphones, 0.6% less than last year, ranking fourth after Xiaomi with 44.4 million units.

Fifth place is occupied by Oppo with 30 million units sold.
