The iPhone 12 processor is a modest improvement in performance compared to last year

When Apple introduced the A14 platform it promised 40% more processor performance and 30% more graphics power compared to the A12 series. It is a comparison with the performance of a 2-year-old chip and not last year which is the Apple A13.

The most important news of the week was the debut of the iPhone 12 series. Apple usually does not reveal information like RAM or battery capacity and we have to wait for the first performance tests to understand the real values.

Also these tests show the maximum performance of the new chips. Geekbench is a platform where the performance of smartphones is tested and shows how much RAM they have or what the processor of a phone is capable of doing.

Compared to the latter Apple has made only modest steps in performance. A listing of the iPhone 12 on Geekbench shows that the smartphone equipped with 4GB of RAM has a score of 1,588 points for one core and 3,677 points for all cores.

iPhone 12 Pro with 6GB RAM scores 1,590 points with a hde 3,881 points with all cores. Overall the score ranged from 3,800 to 4,000 points for the entire new iPhone line.

But last year’s A13 processor is not far off. Apple has improved performance by less than 20% for a core and 8% overall. The A14 is mainly focused on increasing battery life as 5G will take up a significant portion of it.
